Frequently asked questions about plasma filters
You’ll find the answers to a wide range of questions below.
How long should I leave the cooker hood containing the filter switched on? Why do I keep smelling unpleasant smells?
As soon as you start cooking (about 15 before turning on the stove), select the hood power to minimum. The airflow is now moving.
When you’re done, don’t turn the range hood off immediately. We recommend leaving it on for another 10-15 minutes (depending on the size of your kitchen) so that the filter can continue to remove residual odors.
My house has become more humid.
Is your house properly ventilated? The moisture in your kitchen passes through the filter and recirculates back into the room. Our advice is to ventilate the kitchen better, e.g. by opening a window. This also enhances the general climate in the kitchen. New houses normally have a good ventilation system; CMRV or mechanical extraction. If you DO NOT have a ventilation system in your home, DO NOT install the filter! Note: ventilation is mandatory during recirculation.
The filter is connected properly, but there are still cooking odors.
Check the grease filter in the cooker hood. If this filter is not cleaned enough, odors cannot be sufficiently purified and recirculated, which means they will stay in the room for longer. Check your cooker hood manual for optimum cleaning of the grease filter. The advice is often to wash them every week or every other week with soap and water or in the dishwasher. If you notice cooking odors, you can leave the filter on until they disappear. Take account of any recent fluctuations in the temperature/weather. If it’s cold outside, there may be a higher level of ionization. If a proper ventilation system is in place, cooking odorsdishwasher. If you notice cooking odors, you can leave the filter on until they disappear.
Take account of any recent fluctuations in the temperature/weather. If it’s cold outside, there may be a higher level of ionization. If a proper ventilation system is in place, cooking odors will also disappear more quickly than when it is hot outside. Conclusion: in cold weather, the air can be left to recirculate for a shorter time than in hot weather.
I can’t smell cooking odors in the kitchen but I can in other rooms.
This can be explained logically. The filter purifies the air in the room where it is placed. The odors that spread to the other rooms cannot be purified. Therefore it is suggested to close the kitchen door or, if in open space, to close any other rooms.
There’s no air coming out of my cooker hood.
First check that there are air intakes in the flue so that the air can enter the room again. Make sure your cooker hood is connected properly. Check that all switch positions are operating correctly and that the motor is running. Inspect the unit to see whether the check valve has been removed. Sometimes this is not removed from the hood. If it is not removed, air cannot pass through the valve as it presses against the filter and therefore doesn’t open. If it is still there, remove it. Problem still not solved? (Part of) the filter is broken.
Important: never fit a broken filter! If the filter housing is broken (all parts of the filter are plastic), you can return the filter and you will be sent a new one. Note: in this case, no more than three months should elapse between purchase and notification. For more information about exchanges, see the Exchange Warranty.
Can I fit the filter in a heat recovery unit, dryer or other air flow device?
At the moment, our filters are only suitable for use in recirculating extractor hoods.
What does the filter do with the grease it catches?
Any grease that can pass through the cooker hood’s grease filter is destroyed in the filter. Grease is held in a fiberglass mat between the two electrical cores. If the grease builds up between the electrical cores, this starts a “flow” that destroys the grease. Small grease particles are destroyed with ESD and the dust is expelled from the filter by the air pressure generated by the motor. Note: use a grease filter at all times, not just to ensure correct operation of the filter, but also to maximize the service life of the cooker hood motor. This filter needs to be cleaned regularly in accordance with the instruction manual for the hood in order to keep it working properly.
Do I need to service the filter every year?
No, the plasma filter does not require a yearly service.
How do I identify the cooker hood I have at home so as to work out which filter to get?
Every cooker hood has its model details marked on a silver label with an alphanumeric code inside the product. You also need this code to identify the model of the technical filter and other accessories, as well as when calling for technical support for the product. To find out which Plasma filter is suitable for your cooker hood, please fill in and submit this form.
My hood has a smaller hole: can I reduce the diameter of the hose in order to fit the filter?
The product is supplied with 150 mm to 120 mm adapters/reducers. An eccentric version is also available in case the motor outlet hole is too close to the wall.
If my technical systems need to be modified in order to install the filter, who should I contact?
For many modification requirements relating to the custom installation of electrical
appliances, Purehomeideas technicians can take care of the work directly, with a
combination of precision tools and long experience, which solve the problem in the majority
of cases and provide a perfect fit. If the work involves modifications to the water or gas
system, for example, our technicians can put you in touch with trusted professionals with
whom we have been working for many years in various fields. You can order installation at

Do I have to use the standard activated carbon filters supplied with the cooker hood?

My hood has an 80 mm hole: can I reduce the diameter of the extractor hose in order to fit the filter?
The diameter of the outlet hole should never be reduced by more than 20% of its original
diameter. For example, if the outlet is 150 mm, you can reduce the cross-section to a
maximum of 120 mm. If it is 120 mm, you can reduce it to 100 mm, and if it is 100 mm, you
can reduce it to 80 mm. If you reduce it by more than 20%, this will significantly decrease
its performance and increase noise levels. Together with the filter, furthermore,
Purehomeideas supplies adapters that enable you to fit the filter on every cooker hood on the
market.
